EMBR

Better than the workaround.AI and automation people actually use.

EMBR AI & Automation is a Johannesburg company that builds AI and automation for South African businesses of roughly 50 to 500 people. We measure how work actually moves first, then build automation for the parts you can write down and AI for the parts you can't. And we measure again 90 days later.

Fixed fees, agreed in writing before work starts. No hourly billing.

Why does new software lose to the spreadsheet?

A sample: live workarounds on the surface, dormant and dead systems beneath, the core at the bottom. Illustrative.

Every new system competes with the workaround: the spreadsheet, the WhatsApp group, the person who just knows. New systems usually lose because the workaround is easier.

No business sets out to build a workaround economy. It settles. Every system bought and half-adopted, every process replaced but never switched off, stays where it was put. New layers press down on old ones. The people doing the work stay on the surface, and the workarounds grow there, because the layers underneath block the path to what the business actually needs.

A tool that doesn't reach the core becomes another layer. That's how an AI pilot can impress everyone in the demo and change nothing by the next quarter. The hours a week spent working around all of it are workaround debt.

How does EMBR work with a business?

Four stages, in order. Most businesses start with the first or the second.

01

Equip

Before you can clear the layers, leadership has to see them. The Exco Briefing gives your leadership team a plain view of AI on your own documents. The Guardrails puts a policy and rollout rules in place before anyone builds. Both end with a recommendation of where to diagnose first.

02

Diagnose

The Transect takes a sample of your business: what people say, what they do, what the systems show. Every layer gets a year and a measure in hours per week, and you get three to five ranked findings, each with a build path. It's the baseline before anything is built.

The Transect

03

Build

We clear the layers in the way and build one that reaches the core, across the systems you already run. One process in two to three weeks, or a larger build in phases. Nothing gets replaced to make room for us.

04

Improve

Tending keeps the build in use: monitoring, updates, a monthly usage report and a quarterly improvement sprint. Ninety days after launch, we take the same measurement again.

Tending

Automation for the parts you can write down. AI for the parts you can't.

Is the answer always AI?

Sometimes the answer isn't AI. That's how you know you can trust us when it is. Every finding is classed honestly as a process fix, plain automation or genuinely AI. When a finding needs no build at all, we say so.

How do you know it worked?

Same measurement, 90 days later. The Transect is the baseline, and every build carries its own success numbers, agreed before work starts. Ninety days after launch we take the sample again, the same way. The test is simple: did the spreadsheet come back? How we measure.

Who do we work with?

South African businesses with roughly 50 to 500 staff and R50m to R1bn turnover. Usually there's an ERP in place, such as Sage, SAP Business One, Syspro or Xero, data that's messier than anyone would like, an IT team of one to five, and people already using ChatGPT or Copilot without a plan behind it. The person who calls us is usually an MD, COO or exco member with an AI mandate they didn't ask for.

What does it cost?

Every fee is fixed and agreed in writing before work starts. We publish a range for every product, and what moves a quote within it. No hourly billing. We scope every engagement to what you need, and changes are new scope, agreed and priced, never creep. See what it costs.

Where do we start?

With what you're working around. Tell us about it, and we'll come back to you within two working days.

  1. 01You write two linesWhat you're working around. We read it the same day.
  2. 02A 30-minute callWithin two working days. We ask what the workaround costs you, and say which stage fits.
  3. 03A written scopeFixed fee, what you get, when. Nothing starts until you've signed it.
